Introducing Pungu

You guys, this is Flores from the sky.

Isn't it beautiful?

The first time we visited Flores and the Komodo National Park my experience didn't quite live up to my expectation.  I was expecting lush tropical rainforests - I have no idea why - and what I got was a barren landscape that felt dry and desolate.

At the time I couldn't appreciate it's rugged beauty.

But this time, oh my!  The bold contrast of the rust coloured dirt and the luminous turquoise waters. Sunsets of the richest cold and the softest pink.  The purest white sand. The glossy green mangrove forests.  Wow.

It is a stunning and inspiring landscape.

We are on Pulauj Pungu Kecil (Small Pungi Island).  It is nestled at the base of Pungu Besar (Big Pungu) separated only by a thread of water and a mangrove forest. We are about 20 minutes by boat from Labuan Bajo, Flores.

The island of Flores is just a hop skip and a jump from Bali...

Pungu Kecil (and Pungu Besar) are not too far from the Komodo National Park...

Just here, marked with the blue heart.

This is what it looks like...

Pretty, isn't it?

We've been here for a week, and have a little over a week here before returning to R4 for a month before relocating out here...

Yes, you guys, we are moving to another island in the middle of the sea...

Big changes are ahead but we are super excited about the Pungu Chapter!
